I'm OVER THE “BEFORE’S AND AFTER’S”…
One of my biggest turn-offs in the beauty industry is this constant goal of a “grand transformation’. When I’m shopping for beauty online, and swiping the carousel of images of the product I’m browsing, there’s always a “before” and an “after” photo. Look how horrible they looked before and look how amazing they look now! Everyone has an opinion, and maybe this does sell the product, but personally, I do not identify with this in my personal beauty philosophy as an expert with over 10 years experience.
For me, makeup is about the moments in-between the before and after. It’s about the transition…the experience…. the feeling of becoming. Maybe that’s too conceptual for a shopping site, but really, who needs makeup? Makeup isn’t something we need for survival, but it does feed our souls and connects us to ourselves. In the current stage of post consumerism where we are all addicted to our phones and can buy anything with a click of a button, I have had to choose to slow down. Making my makeup routine a ritual has been the easiest way to be present in a world that never stops. Sitting at my vanity and taking pauses in between each step, rose hip spritz to mascara, has grounded me in a way I didn’t realize makeup could do. Knowing what I am using is good for me and offers healing benefits, like rose hip, is an added bonus. Moisturize my face, prep for makeup, while also opening my heart chakra? Check, check and check.
